General Information

Older than the pyramids at Giza, Newgrange sits, protected as a word heritage site. How newgrange originally looked on the outside is anyone's guess, but based off the materials found in the area, the facade has been rebuilt, making the structure noticeable from many roads in the area.
The white facade contains randomly placed round stones. No one knows if they were random or if they marked patterns. I would like to imagine they were in a significant pattern just as anyone may have their own ideas on how it may have looked.
There is a visitor's center called Brú na Bóinne that has a bus service to the site and a tour guide included in the tour fee. You may not enter the grounds of newgrange unless you purchase a ticket from the visitor's center.

Rock Art at Newgrange

Outside of the tomb/passageway, there are curb (kerb) stones that you can photograph. They do not allow photography inside the passageway, which should be noted before you pay the fee to enter the area to avoid any heartbreak. One of the inside chambers had a beautifully carved ceiling with swirls and a bowl shaped rock below.

It was severely disappointing not to be able to take photos of this, but since my visit, a gentleman named Michael wrote to us and pointed us to the following photos: Knowth.com Newgrange photos. I think the photos really capture the feeling inside the passageway.
